I just came across this news clip from The Simple English News...
A college student in China has decided to leave school after he won money in a lottery.
According to a report on Reuters, the student believes he no longer has any need for an education after claiming a $683,000 prize.
However, one of his teachers hopes the student will continue his studies in the future.
"We are not sure if he will return to school, but we hope he will eventually finish his education," his teacher said.
Wow...first of all, congrats on winning the lottery. That's quite a stroke of luck.
Unfortunately, money doesn't necessarily make you smarter. Now that this guy has landed some serious discretionary income it's the perfect time for him to STAY in school. He can put his money to work and get an education.
Perhaps what is the most telling from this article is his claim that "he no longer has any need for an education." That's a pretty telling statement. It reminds me of a saying I once heard (and will tweak a little for the benefit of this post)...
When a person with education teams up with a person with money, the person with an education ends up with the money and the person with the money ends up with an education.
That's not to say I wouldn't mind winning the lottery...but I guess you need to buy a ticket to actually have a chance.
